Hello!
People who know me well know that I love wearing classic clothing designs. I like investing in pieces that will last me for years- I’ve had some things for up to eight years! Don’t get me wrong; I think trendy clothes are cute! But I don’t think you can ever go wrong with a classic. That said, wearing classic designs over fast-fashion (Zara, H&M) has its benefits, and I want to share some of them with you all.
1. You’re helping the environment! The fashion industry is the second largest industry responsible for pollution, so not buying from brands who support the mass production of garments is preferable.
2. You’ll always be on-trend. I can’t guarantee this, but I have a feeling that the outfit I’m wearing in the photos above will appear more “normal” than current trends a few years from now. The shoes are more questionable than the other products, but they’re still a simple style which is good.
3. Invest in classics now, but enjoy them for the long-term. Pricey classics are typically made with natural materials like cotton, linen, and wool, whereas fast-fashion pieces contain synthetics. As a result, classic designs hold over for longer and you can wear and pass them down for years.
I’m excited to continue educating myself on the importance of classic clothes and am going to “walk the walk,” not just “talk the talk.” I’m currently working on minimizing my wardrobe to only classic, sustainable pieces. Long story short, I sold some clothes to my local Plato’s Closet and on Poshmark (which I never realized is such an easy app to use). Stay tuned for a closet organization and minimization post where I’ll go into depth about this!
Until next time,
Lindi
