This past weekend, my friend Christine and I went to Verona, Italy. An hour after we arrived, a weekend-long festival began. We watched a parade stroll through the city square; Entertainers, including dancers and musicians, interacted with the audience. Children dressed in costumes as if it were American Halloween threw confetti everywhere. This street party must’ve felt so typical to the city’s residents. Witnessing this celebratory community gathering as an outsider was amazing; I think people on one side of the world often think individuals on the other side of the world are so different from them. This event was a testament that we’re more similar than we are different; We all desire community, happiness, and to dance in the middle of the street and sing sometimes!
The following day we crossed the old bridge where a man played accordion, a small detail that I always love to hear when traveling. We visited San Zeno Basilica, the church where Romeo and Juliet fictionally married. I kept remembering songs from my past that mentioned Romeo and Juliet, lol.
I’d recommend this peaceful and beautiful city to anyone looking to go somewhere different than the typical European city. It’s incredibly walkable and was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Florence. Ciao for now!
Until next time,
Lindi
I vlogged this weekend, enjoy!
